The Kinkaid Legacy Society
The Kinkaid Legacy Society was founded in 1997 to preserve Kinkaid's future. It was established in honor of Kinkaid's founder and first Head of School, Margaret Kinkaid. The Society recognizes and thanks those who have created provisions in their wills or estate plans to benefit Kinkaid and have informed the School of their commitment.
The Kinkaid School is forever grateful to all those who choose to leave an enduring legacy to strengthen this beloved institution for generations to come.
With Gratitude
The Kinkaid School is grateful for these most recent gifts made through estates.
Katherine Susman Howe Estate
Kath Howe graduated from The Kinkaid School in 1964. She earned her BA in art history and an MA in museology and enjoyed a 40+ year career with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. In gratitude for one of the institutions that shaped her life, Kath included a percentage bequest in her will to provide unrestricted funds for use by the libraries at The Kinkaid School.
Lynn Rutland Rafferty Estate
Mrs. Rafferty was very generous to Kinkaid throughout her life, so, naturally, her children Gail Wolf Orr ’81 and Bill Wolf ’83 decided the perfect way to honor their mother and support the school she valued so much was to give mineral assets that were difficult to divide. It allowed them to avoid splitting a relatively illiquid asset between heirs while supporting the future of Kinkaid.
Dr. Terence Reed Estate
Dr. Terence Reed graduated from The Kinkaid School in 1953. His father served as Head of the Upper School for many years. Dr. Reed established The Carl and Soni Reed Endowed Scholarship with a $62,000 gift to Kinkaid through a 10% residual beneficiary of his estate. The scholarship is named in memory of his parents to support a need-based scholarship awarded to a faculty member’s child/children.
Damon Wells Estate
Damon Wells ’54 was a distinguished alum and former Trustee of The Kinkaid School. Mr. Wells was very generous to Kinkaid throughout his life, so, naturally, he made a final gift of $1,000,000 in his will. Since he was well known as a historian, the Board decided to create the Damon Wells Endowed Chair in History to support the salary of a history teacher.
Barbara Graham Williams Estate
Barbara Graham Williams was a beloved Latin teacher in the Middle School at Kinkaid for 30 years. With a gift of $100,000 from her estate, she established the Barbara Graham Williams Middle School Latin Teacher Endowment to support the salary of the Middle School Latin Teacher.
