Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I consider a gift to The Kinkaid School?
Gifts are made for many different reasons. Often gifts are made:
- To express gratitude.
- To honor a loved one.
- To ensure Kinkaid will remain the special place we cherish and a vital educational experience for all students, now and in the future.
- To assist Kinkaid in providing opportunities for talented students, regardless of their finances.
- To celebrate a special occasion.
- I have arranged for a gift in my estate for The Kinkaid School. Should I notify you?
Please do! We would value the opportunity to thank you in person or answer any questions you may have. Knowing of your gift helps Kinkaid meet your priorities and preferences and confirm your desires for recognition. Please also consider providing us with a confidential copy of the relevant portion of your will, trust, or beneficiary-designation form. Please contact Lisa Wood, Assistant Director of Advancement, at (713) 243-5023 or lisa.wood@kinkaid.org.
- What if I change my mind?
You may make changes at any time as long as your gift is not irrevocable. We kindly ask that you keep Kinkaid informed of any changes you make over time.
- May I designate my estate gift for a specific purpose?
Yes! You may direct your gift to support a particular purpose that is most meaningful to you and aligns with our mission and priorities, such as need-based financial aid, faculty salaries, faculty professional development, and technology. However, unrestricted funds provide Kinkaid with the greatest flexibility and allow the School’s leadership to address the areas of greatest need. As with any gift, please discuss any intended restrictions on the use of your gift with Lisa Wood, Assistant Director of Advancement, at lisa.wood@kinkaid.org or (713) 243-5023 to ensure that the gift can be effectively applied.
- How will my gift be recognized?
The Kinkaid Legacy Society was created to honor donors who have made a provision for Kinkaid in their estate plans. All Kinkaid Legacy Society donors are recognized in the Annual Report and on our webpage. On occasion, the donors will receive special correspondences and invitations to activities hosted by The Kinkaid School. Of course, we would honor your request to remain anonymous as well.
- What information should I provide to the School if I have named The Kinkaid School in my will?
You only need to inform us that you have included Kinkaid in your will to be included in the Kinkaid Legacy Society. It would be helpful to the School if you documented your generosity by completing the Kinkaid Legacy Society Membership Information Form. This will allow us to properly thank you and confirm your intentions.
If you have questions in this area, please contact Lisa Wood, Assistant Director of Advancement, at (713) 243-5023 or lisa.wood@kinkaid.org.
- Will my estate gift count in the ALL IN Comprehensive Campaign?
Yes, it can, but with some restrictions. For revocable gifts, like wills, living trusts, life insurance, and beneficiary designations on retirement plans, etc., a donor must be aged 70 or above by December 31, 2025, and the gift must be documented in writing. Revocable deferred gifts are generally not used for naming opportunities for capital projects unless combined with an outright gift totaling 50% or more of the commitment, and a gift agreement must be signed with Kinkaid. Note: a donor can name an endowment with a revocable deferred gift but not capital projects.
All irrevocable gifts, like charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, retained life estates in real estate, or irrevocable bequests (established as such through a gift agreement with Kinkaid) do NOT have an age requirement to count in the campaign. These types of gifts may be used as a naming opportunity as long as Kinkaid is named as the irrevocable beneficiary in the instrument and a gift agreement is signed with Kinkaid.
All gifts must be documented in writing on the Kinkaid Comprehensive Campaign Commitment Form (verbal alone is not sufficient to count in the campaign), and all those that meet these counting requirements are counted at face value.
Other vehicles of planned gifts can be discussed. Kinkaid has a Gift Acceptance Policy, and final acceptance of the gift will be approved by the Gift Acceptance Committee.
