To Excel in All Aspects of Student Life
Susie Adams Smith ’69 and her husband Tommy have been faithful supporters of The Kinkaid School. Susie remembers fondly John Cooper who was Headmaster while she was a student. "He set the template for growth and quality education at Kinkaid," she says. Because of his example, "Tommy and I believe in the mission of the School, and we support Kinkaid because we want the School to excel in all aspects of student life."
The Smiths feel that the quality of the education and the facilities are what makes Kinkaid special. So, it is not surprising that they have generously supported every major capital campaign in recent years. "It is exciting to see the expansion of all the facilities, and we are pleased to contribute to enhance the student experience."
However, the greatest impact Kinkaid has had on Susie's life has been the lasting friendships she made as a student and parent. Susie came to Kinkaid in the second grade along with her two siblings. She was a cheerleader, active in student council, and played basketball, volleyball, and softball.
While the Smiths' children, Nancy ’03 and Stuart (fs), attended Kinkaid, Susie and Tommy were active volunteer parents. Susie also served as president of the Alumni Association Board, and Tommy was a member of the Kinkaid Endowment Board of Directors for many years. It was Kinkaid's sense of community that provided the opportunity to form those cherished friendships.
Susie enjoys art and spending time traveling with her family. She and Tommy are new grandparents to Arden, daughter of Christina and Stuart Smith, and look forward to traveling often to North Carolina to see her.
