Terri Lacy Baird jokes, "I was active when my children were here and just never left!" Terri is a former Kinkaid parent, a current Kinkaid Endowment Board member, a full-time estate-planning attorney, and, most important, a mother to Dylan ’02 and Sarah ’06 as well as a grandmother. Looking back on her roles at the School over the years, Terri says there are a few things that stand out when she thinks about what Kinkaid means to her.

Kinkaid provided an incredible foundation in every aspect of her children's lives. She believes that Kinkaid gave them the tools to succeed—a great education with a strong desire to give back. Not only does she see the impact that the teachers had on her kids, but she also recognizes the positive influence that the greater Kinkaid community had on their futures.

Terri says being part of such a generous community made an impression on Dylan and Sarah. They realized at a young age the importance of a philanthropic attitude, and they carried that with them outside of Kinkaid. Dylan serves on the board of a charter school in New York, and Sarah is opening a new school in New Haven, Connecticut, for the charter school system in which she works.

Paying It Forward

Both of her children are committed to encouraging education because they have seen the difference it made in their own lives. Just as someone who came before them planted a seed for improving Dylan and Sarah's Kinkaid experience, Terri feels that financially supporting the School is her opportunity to do the same for future generations of students.

When thinking about the future during your own estate planning, Terri advises to start by determining your personal priorities. These priorities differ from one person to the next, but it's no secret that Terri "loves working on plans that include philanthropic goals, especially those supporting Kinkaid!"
