Transforming Lives
One of the very first things Andrejka Bernatova and David Mora did after becoming Kinkaid parents was to establish an endowed financial aid scholarship. “As a family, we believe in the power of education transforming lives by opening unique avenues for development and life-changing opportunities. We wanted to make sure that our contribution was meaningful and immediate and that it could positively impact the School in the area that we were most passionate about. Establishing the scholarship achieved all three components,” Andrejka explains.
The couple have three children, David Mora Bernat ’31, Jack Mora Bernat ’33, and 2-year-old daughter Mariana. “Our family is diverse and speaks three languages at home, coming from two starkly different cultures—Eastern Europe and South America. However, the strongest ‘nationality’ our children identify with is ‘Kinkaid.’ From the very beginning we felt included in the community, and we can’t think of a better place to teach and instill values and principles in our children that will serve them well beyond their Kinkaid years.”
Both Andrejka and David have experienced a variety of educational systems and have lived in several countries. They agree that the schools that were life-defining were those schools that not only stretched them academically but also developed other aspects in them personally. Andrejka says “the most striking discovery in my journey was the positive impact the scholarship students had on the non-scholarship student body. The experience gives everyone a differentiated exposure that we believe is a ‘must’ in today’s world.”
They believe any contribution, however small, is meaningful, and they could not be happier for the opportunity to partner with Kinkaid in transforming the life of a talented student by providing them with a Kinkaid education regardless of their economic circumstances. Kinkaid couldn’t agree more and is grateful for their generous support.
