Randall (Randy) Johnson '75 and his younger brother Ronnie grew up in Houston. Their parents enrolled them at Kinkaid when Randy was in third grade and Ronnie was in kindergarten. “Kinkaid was key in forming the person I am today,” Randy says. “Kinkaid does not place you in a box. Instead, they help to create an individual shape for their students.”

After Ronnie’s passing in 1994, Randy created an endowment fund in his brother’s name to support photography at Kinkaid. “I wanted to create a forever legacy honoring my brother, Ronald Raymond Johnson, Class of 1978,” Randy says. “Not only is it a way to honor Ronnie, but it is a flexible vehicle that allows me to contribute what and when I want.”

As a student, Randy was involved in the photography club, the Falcon newspaper, and the Kinkaidian yearbook as well as baseball, cross country, and soccer. “Sports taught me about the importance of teamwork,” he says. “Teachers helped me not just to learn but to value the importance of learning. The extra-curricular activities, such as trips to museums and the symphony, gave me a lifelong appreciation of art and the arts.”

Randy encourages others to consider what type of legacy they could leave to support future Falcons. “Kinkaid was an incredible and invaluable part of my life,” he concludes. “It helped to show me the many avenues my life might take. Such an important aspect deserves recognition and support.”
