Phyllis Selber Establishes Bequest to Reinforce Her Enduring Legacy at Kinkaid

As The Kinkaid School’s longtime development director, Phyllis Selber introduced many initiatives that are integral parts of the Kinkaid experience today. Now, through a bequest in her will, she is ensuring that her positive influence will continue to support the School and its students long into the future.

“Kinkaid has been a special part of my life,” Phyllis says. “It is important to me that Kinkaid remains a strong school for generations to come.” Phyllis chose a bequest, honoring her late husband Jack, because she and her daughters, Jill Handaly ’89 and Sandy Sturm ’91, wanted a gift that would go directly to Kinkaid. She hopes the funds it provides will support parental involvement in student success.

“Parents were essential to my success at Kinkaid,” she says.

Now retired, Phyllis started her Kinkaid career in 1979 as a member of the Admission’s Office. After one year, she was asked to join Development where she served as a transformative leader for 22 years, including overseeing the creation of Kinkaid’s Alumni Association.

Under her direction, the Development Office witnessed many campus improvements, such as a new Lower School building, new theatre, and the Center for Student Life, Fine Arts and Administration. After retiring, she remained active on the Building Committee and assisted with many special events. Phyllis urges others to join her in establishing a planned gift to support the School.

“Think about what Kinkaid did for you because of the gifts of others,” she says. “Help make sure this excellent education is available for generations who follow you.”
